‘Jacket Men’s and Women’s Links Tied After First Half or MSUB/Rocky Mountain Collegiate Cup
BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State Billings men’s and women’s golf teams are tied with Rocky Mountain College in the annual MSUB/Rocky Mountain Collegiate Cup. The women are all even at five, while the men are tied at six. The teams will get back together in the spring to conclude the tournament.
The first half was played Oct. 3-4 at Peter Yegen Golf Club, where, on the women’s side, Rocky held a 2-1 lead in the best ball format after the first day. MSUB’s Kalli Stanhope and Lindsay Erickson defeated Brooke Stewart and Lindsey Holzwarth, 2-up. Erickson birdied the 17th hole, while Stanhope birdied 18 for the point for the Yellowjackets.
On Saturday, the Yellowjackets won four of seven singles matches to even the score at five a piece. Stanhope won her singles match with Jen Orchard 7 and 6. Amy Nordeen came from two holes down with four birdies and a 65-yard eagle on number eight to defeat Stewart 3 and 1. Breanna Magness defeated Katie Sauvageau 2-up and Courtney LaDue defeated Charlie Knowlton as both Magness and LaDue won the final two holes to earn the victories.
“The team score 5-5 is the best we have ever done at the halfway point on the women’s side,” head coach Kevin Woodin said. “We are very excited about our position now and are looking forward to the spring.”
On the men’s side, MSUB led after the first day in the best ball format, 3-1. Rocky came storming back on the second day, winning five of eight singles matches for a 6-6 tie heading into the spring at Briarwood.
